Friday Favorites: On Outdoor Patios, Homemade Guacamole, Pumping Iron and More

[source]

Good morning lovely ladies; hope you are all having a glorious Friday. I’m about to take off to New Hampshire for Memorial Day Weekend with my family and The Boy. We’ve got lots of fun events planned for the weekend, including  Chowder Fest, hiking, and lots of margaritas. I’m sure all of you have some exciting plans in store too!

Anyway, today’s Friday and you know what that means; it’s time for Friday Favorites. Here’s what made my top 5 this week:

The Sign: This morning, Ace of Base’s “The Sign” came on my iPod shuffle and I was so loving it. It used to be my driving jam in college and I haven’t heard it in years. It’s seriously one of my favorite, feel-good tunes and I absolutely love belting out the lyrics. Give it a go yourself.

Outdoor Patios: Now that it’s summer, the Boston bars are beginning to open up their roof decks and patios. An iced-cold cocktail on the sunny patio tastes that much better than in a crowded, muggy bar.

Last night, my roommate and I went to the block party at Downtown Crossing, and had a blast. There were a bunch of young professionals mingling, sipping drinks and listening to the live cover band music (which was excellent by the way) outside. Plus, you can’t go wrong with $2 beers and $4 glasses of wine.

Brights: During the cooler months, I’m a black, white and grey girl, and usually stick to solids. However, the warm weather is bringing out my inner-brightness. Lately, I’ve been rocking pinks, oranges, purples, and even lime green. It’s fun to jazz up your style with a little color. Plus what lady doesn’t like to shine?

Guac: Holy guacamole! Boy did I have a delicious guac last night at Fajitas and Ritas downtown. I shortly realized that guacamole is addicting; it’s just so freakin’ good! As are chips ‘n’ salsa. Hey, avocados are a healthy fat after all, but of course too much of anything is never a good thing. Although it sure is mighty hard to resist.

Now that it’s a little warmer outside, it’s the perfect weather for lemonade, chips, and guacamole. Wow your friends by making a tasty guac for your next outing. You’ll be the hit of the night in no time! See “Rachel’s Classic Guac” recipe here (it’s at the bottom of this post)

Pumping Iron: Last month I fell into the cardio trap. I got so used to running while training for my marathon, that I took the easy way out and slacked majorly on my strength training. Sure cardio is great for your heart, but it doesn’t do too much for your shape. That’s why a mixture of both cardio and strength training is the ultimate combo.

This past week I’ve been focusing really hard on pumping that iron, as my goal for the summer is to be toned like those hotties in Women’s Health magazine, and strong like Popeye (well, without the huge muscles). Hey, a girl can dream. I did an amazing interval routine this morning, and really want to get back into Core Fusion as nothing else makes your booty look so good.

What’s on your top 5 this week? Happy Memorial Day Weekend to all of you!

XoXo,
