To Do: Plan a Healthy Girls’ Day Out

Who said ladies’ day out has to include martinis and chick flicks?

This past Sunday, a good friend and I were way overdue for a girls’ day. You know, a solid day of gossip, chit-chat, excitement and fun. Typically, when you think of ladies’ night (or day) out, you think martinis, comfort food, and Sex and the City on repeat. But times have changed, my friend. A solid date with your lady friend no longer has to consist of eating your feelings away with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and DVR.

In fact, ladies’ day out can, and should be, a way to catch up and have a productive, healthy day at the same time! So my friend and I planned our day accordingly, and hit the Charles River for a 4-mile walk and talk sesh. It didn’t even feel like exercise, and by the time we were done, both of us were fully caught up on each other’s crazy lives. We then skipped the nachos, and head over to Whole Foods for a hearty dinner. Um, have you seen their salad bar and hot buffet? Yum. We finished our perfect day with a little grocery shopping, followed by eating our fresh-pressed almond butter out of it’s container by the spoonful. Hey, a girl’s gotta have her fun.

Here are some more ideas for a fun, fit & fabulous girls’ day out:

  • Pack homemade salads, soup and/or sandwiches on whole grain pitas and head to a local park for a nutritious fall picnic
  • Take a trip to an outdoor mall or outlets and power-walk / shop the day away
  • Sign up for a local 5K or 10K together, and cheer each other on at the finish line! Wrap your day up with a healthy brunch; you deserve it.
  • Rent bikes for the day, and explore the city via wheels
  • Make a wholesome dinner together, or host a healthy potluck at your place. Homemade pizza, Sage risotto, and Chicken, Broccoli Alfredo are always a huge hit. Still stuck? Browse these healthy recipes.
  • Try a new local, organic cafe for lunch, followed by a show at the local playhouse.
  • Iced pumpkin coffees paired with power-walking
  • Walk your dogs together, and even stop to buy them a lil doggie treat along the way!
  • Sign up for a fun class in the area, like Zumba, Core Fusion or dare I say POLE DANCING
  • Throw on your cutest fall outfits and hit the orchards for some apple picking. I don’t blame you if you go home with one too many apples, and even some homemade apple butter.

What are your favorite healthy date ideas to do with your best girlfriend?

XoXo,

One of the funnest things I do with my girls is our soup date. Once a month, we all get together to make a new creative and healthy soup that tastes delicious and in the evening we all go for a hot yoga class.

I love this idea Jessica, sounds like a blast! Especially now that it’s fall, the season for soup : )
