Healthy Chicks in the Community Week 4: A Motivated Mom on the Move

Good afternoon ladies, and welcome to week 4 of Healthy Chicks in the Community. This week’s spotlight is a pay-it-forward, soup-loving mother of two, who also happens to be my beautiful cousin! I’ll let Marissa take it from here…

NAME/AGE: Marissa, 36

CURRENT CITY: East Hampton, CT

PHOTO TAKEN: At an art party for my daughter, Jaelyn.

WHAT YOU DO FOR WORK: For my career, I am a School Based Occupational Therapist working with children in regular and special education to be able to reach their full potential in school. In my private life, I am a mother of 2 young children which is another job altogether. Of course, both of these lines of work give me skills to use in the other job, so I am lucky in that respect!

NUMBER ONE PASSION: This is a tough one. Being a mom definitely takes priority so, as many other mothers know, passions and hobbies can easily be forgotten or lost along the way. I would have to say, at the heart of almost everything I do, is a passion to make a better world for my children and those around me. I am a firm believer in “paying it forward”, caring for the earth, teaching my children to respect and care themselves and for all living things. If I were to answer this in regards to my number one pastime or hobby I’d have to say gardening. It connects me with the earth, my kids, and healthy eating!

I FEEL MY HEALTHIEST SELF WHEN I AM: Well rested, well fed, and doing something outdoors!

BUT I AM ALSO A REAL GIRL & SOMETIMES: I forget to follow my own healthy standards. I get pressured for time and money and reach a bubbling point and POOF, days have gone by since I’ve done the things I just mentioned above!

TOP THREE KITCHEN STAPLES: My daughter helped me on this one, and she’s 100% correct! Apples (we go through 20-30 a week here!), carrots, and coconut oil.

NUMBER ONE GUILTY PLEASURE: Ugh! I’ve been trying so hard to kick my chocolate cravings! I LOVE chocolate chips mixed with almonds and cashews OR solid coconut oil and granola. I’ve worked to find the “healthiest” and least chemically laden chocolate chips I could find, but it’s still something I feel guilty about!

EXERCISE THAT MAKES YOU SHINE: Hands down- dancing with my kids!

FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD: Soup. I’d be more specific, but really it’s the general idea of soup rather than a specific one.

MESSAGE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH OTHER HEALTHY CHICKS:  Nobody is ever a finished product. We are always redefining, reshaping, learning, and growing. It’s ok to make mistakes and have set backs. It’s ok to stumble. Forgive yourself and move on.

I’m talking about the fact that he is being ertxemely extra to hide the obvious. He wasn’t giving this when he first dropped (even though it was apparent then), and still managed to establish a following. Why now? Someone’s in his ear I’m sure. I’ll just be glad when Usher and Trey come back, Miguel was clearly an appetizer since both were coming on the end of their albums back in 2010, so he had 2011 and filled the void of the male R&B singer.
