Make 2014 All About Y-O-U

What does the New Year mean to you? Have you ever asked yourself that question before?

Unfortunately in the midst of Special K commercials telling us we can “lose 6 lbs in 2 weeks” and every single gym yelling at us to get back into shape and start this new year “right,” I think things have become a bit confusing.

Between advertisements, Facebook, magazines, and television, it seems like everyone else wants us to lose weight and be our “fittest selves ever” but is that what you want?

The other day, while perusing Facebook, I read 15+ statuses about getting back to the gym before it’s too late, making this the year about weight loss and being motivated, cleaning up your diet once & for all, and finally losing those last 10 pounds…just like last year…and the year before.

You know what I say? I think that’s all kinda crap.

How about making this year the year of YOU? The year to explore what YOU want. And if that so happens to be getting into shape so you can have more energy to be a better lover/mother/fill in the blank so be it.

But it doesn’t have to be.

It could also be the year of exploring your passions, of quitting your job to start your own jewelry-making business. Of putting yourself out there again in the dating world. Of saying “no” to others when you simply don’t have the time nor want to & saying yes to yourself.

Of being in control. Of getting your finances under control. Of being a better listener, a better friend, a better partner. The year of exploring a new hobby or revisiting an old one.

The year to start treating yourself with more love, of having some faith. Of doing things differently…just because. 2014 could be the year of positive change, of hope, of inspiration.

Make this year about you.

Ask yourself, what do you want & why?

Then step away from the TV & internet for a moment all telling you that you need to lose weight & get back to the gym. They don’t know what you want. They don’t even know you.

Now that you’re clear, set your intention for 2014. Resolutions were so 2013.

Happy New Year friends!

XoXo,

Rach

[…] Make 2014 All About Y-O-U by Rachel – I love this article from Rachel. Don’t start a diet program you feel is wrong just because your co-workers are doing it, don’t join the newest gym when it is a distance from your house and office. Do what works for you. Set YOUR goals, YOUR intentions. Goals do not have to be about losing weight or getting fit. Maybe it is finding the full-time job of your dreams or saving to buy a larger house. […]

Very motivating and a kinder way to start the year! I usually make a ton of goals at the beginning of the year, and I am following a Happiness Project focus every month, but I’m going for two overall themes: 1) use time meaningfully and 2) be consistent.
