Healthy Chicks in the Community: A Wandering Yogi Who Would Love To Cook You Dinner
Happy Friday, love bugs! On to this week’s feature on Healthy Chicks in the Community, a weekly series celebrating badass women doing their thang in the community.
I first met Ashley when I moved into my new apartment complex. I was writing and playing with a new delivery of essential oils, when she walked over to me and asked if I was a yoga teacher. “I wish,” I replied, as I explained to her what I do. We got to talking, and I found out Ashley has an amazing instagram account with 17K+ followers, showcasing her journey as a yogi.
This chick is pretty darn inspiring, and I’m excited to celebrate her today! I especially love her message at the end 😉
NAME/AGE: Ashley Zhang, 21
INSTAGRAM: @Ashley.yoga
CURRENT CITY: Fishers, Indiana
PHOTO TAKEN (WHERE/WHEN): May 2016 in Charleston, Illinois
WHAT YOU DO FOR WORK: Full time student
NUMBER ONE PASSION: Yoga, cooking, travelling
I FEEL MY HEALTHIEST SELF WHEN I AM: being active outside, enjoying my favorite fruits, and laughing those unexpected big belly laughs
BUT I AM ALSO A REAL GIRL & SOMETIMES: I fall off the wagon, lose motivation to exercise and practice yoga, eat way too many slices of pizza, and get irritable and upset
TOP THREE KITCHEN STAPLES: Coffee maker, blender, hot water kettle
FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD: A big bowl of noodle soup, or a good ol’ peanut butter jelly sandwich
SONG THAT MOVES YOU: Anything with a good beat
THREE FAB THINGS ABOUT YOU:
(1) I have articles in two yoga magazines.
(2) I find joy in cooking for other people.
(3) I have the laugh of a chipmunk according to my friends who always make fun of me for it.
FAVORITE BODY PART: I love my body in its entirety, not necessarily because my legs are as strong as I want them to be, or I have a six pack, or because I have sculpted arms, but because they each serve a purpose and allow me to do the things that I love everyday
EXERCISE THAT MAKES YOU SHINE: Weight lifting and yoga
MESSAGE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH OTHER HEALTHY CHICKS: It is okay to call yourself beautiful, to say your own eyes are pretty, and to love your waist and legs regardless of their size. It’s not conceited to use your fingers and point out all the things you are good at, rather than pointing at your flaws. You are so much more wonderful, beautiful, and magical than you ever give yourself credit for. Be proud of who you are.
Big thank you to Ashley for taking part in this week’s Healthy Chicks in the Community! If you’d like to nominate yourself or a friend in the future, just email me at rachelAThealthy-chicksDOTcom
