Weekly Healthy Chicks in the Community Feature: Rachael Lynsey Rubin of Beauty PaRLR

Happy Friday, ladies! I’m celebrating my way right into 4th of July Weekend and my 30th birthday (on the 5th!) with a bang. But before we all take off for fireworks, BBQs and family fun, it’s time for this week’s spotlight on Healthy Chicks in the Community, a weekly series highlighting rockstar Girl Bosses doing their thang in the community.

One of my favorite quotes is, “She believed she could so she did.” It’s simple yet so powerful and I like that it shows what you want is ultimately up to you. Framingham MA resident Rachael Lynsey Rubin is the epitome of this quote — she had a dream, went after it and made it her reality.

I’ve followed her story along for a while, and it’s been so beautiful watching her go from makeup artist to Boss Girl/Photographer/Studio Owner/you name it in the matter of a few years. I’ll let Rachael take it over from here; perhaps she’ll inspire you too to go after something you believe in, and take it by the horns (or makeup brush and camera in her case).

NAME: Rachael Lynsey Rubin; RLR; Rach; Rachie

DESCRIBE YOUR BUSINESS/LINE OF WORK: I am the owner and founder of Beauty PaRLR & RLR Studio Inc. Personally, I am a makeup artist and a photographer and the visionary for my company. We are the first ever full service salon, that is combined with a full service photography studio located in Framingham. I started a piece of NYC in Boston and am so proud of where I work and what I do!

WHERE YOU LIVE: I live in Framingham! Born and raised in Framingham, went to college at Hofstra University in Long Island, where I started my company, and brought it back to Boston! A piece of my heart still lives in NYC and maybe a tiny part in Florence?!

HOW YOU SERVE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH YOUR WORK: My daily drive and passion comes from creating the perfect version of others. Every service at my company is of the highest quality, provided by the best in the industry with the goal of making other feel unbelievable about themselves. I serve my community by building confidence and beauty. I love how Beauty PaRLR & RLR studio inc. brings the community together in a new way; through events and services. Our staff are kind and positive and infuse positive energy into the community; I believe our clientele really feel that.

NUMBER ONE PASSION OUTSIDE THE JOB: I don’t have a job, I have a passion :). My work is my love and my passion. When I am not at “work” I am thinking about it; because its apart of my soul. When I am not physically at the studio, I love spending time with my family, my boyfriend Mike, my baby wheaten terrier Mookie and going to NYC.

INTENTIONS/GOALS YOU HAVE FOR YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 3 YEARS: I am currently in the process of expanding my company into a new space. We are going from 2,500 sq. feet, to 11,000 sq. feet inside of the same building. We will be rebranding the entire company to be called, PARLR. Over the next 3 years, this expansion and rebrand will be my focus. We will be one of the largest salons and photography studios in the entire world, it will consume a lot of my time to make it the most amazing it can be!

ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’D TELL YOUR CHILDHOOD SELF: If I could talk to my childhood self, I would probably tell little Rachael to eat healthier and to understand that the fire you have inside of you to create and be the best you can be, will one day be validated by your actions.

FOODS THAT MAKE YOU FEEL ALIVE & BRING THE MOST JOY: I mean…. I could answer this question for 6 hours, I love food. I love Chinese food (oops). I love anything sweet. I love cake. Yup. I have no idea, how to answer this question quickly. Basically anything that is not fish I will eat.

SONG THAT MOVES YOU: I love the song “Belief” by Gavin Degraw. I like soulful acoustic love songs, and my friends say I am incredibly uplifting.

THREE FAB THINGS ABOUT YOU: 1. I like my hair.  2. I like my positive attitude on life. Sometimes to fault, but I always turn everything into a positive because life is too short to view things any other way. 3. I like the energy that I bring to the earth. I feel blessed to touch others in the way they do when they enter my energetic field.

FAVORITE BODY PART & WHY: This is an easy one for me. My ankles. My friends Julie and Courtney understand. They are just really doing their thing down there and somehow are incredibly thin and hairless. #nocankleshere

I GET MY INSPIRATION FROM: Everything and everyone around me. I believe everything I see, touch, smell, look at, read, hear is my teacher and my inspiration. I am constantly inspired and constantly envisioning new creative concepts in my mind. Its exhausting and exciting all at the same time.

EXERCISE THAT MAKES YOU SHINE: I love spinning when the music is bumping. My body really NEEDS yoga. Having the time for it is a different story, but I do feel like an amazing human after I do yoga. I do incredible things when I slow down my mind and body for a little time each week.

SOMETHING IN YOUR “WELLNESS TOOLBOX” YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: Reiki. We offer reiki at the salon. At first, I was not a believer. I did not understand how something that was not physical could be so powerful. My energy is so strong, that it requires a lot of attention and tuning. Reiki makes me feel clear and centered and peaceful. Another big one for me is meditation. I meditate for 3-5 minutes every morning before starting my day and it generally is a foreshadow of how my day will go.

GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: My greatest accomplishment is the team that I have created. Hands down, easiest answer. I feel that one of my strongest skills is my ability to read others; their energy, their thoughts, their body language and their intention. The group of individuals that come together every day at Beauty PaRLR and RLR studio inc. create an energy field that makes me feel so proud.

FEMALE LEADER(S) YOU LOOK UP TO: I don’t know why this is a difficult question for me! I tend to look at the strong women in my life as leaders and inspiration, not others I don’t know. My mom is a pillar of strength, my Mammy is a pillar of wisdom, my sister is a pillar of logic. I recently am having an obsession over Suzy Batiz, the owner and founder of Poo-Pourri. We have become friends and I love her business mind, her spirituality and her vision. I have a lot of respect for entrepreneurs… oh and Beyonce. I love hard workers. I don’t like women that expect to receive.

IF YOU COULD PICK ONE PERSON TO HAVE DINNER WITH, WHO WOULD IT BE & WHAT WOULD YOU MAKE THEM: Depends on my mood and the night. I strongly dislike committing to plans. I would probably want to have dinner with my mom because I enjoy her company all the time and I would not make her anything, because I am a horrendous chef, I would order in. If we are talking celebrity? Probably Sheryl Sandberg?! I am not one to “ooh & ahh” over celebrities… However, I think she is intelligent and has been through a lot. The type of pain leads to so much strength and wisdom and I would love to hear what she had to say behind closed doors.

GO-TO MANTRA OR INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE:
I simply believe in being nice to everyone. You don’t know what others are going through. Just be kind and helpful and loving and don’t be motivated by greed and money. Money is green paper.

A quote that once inspired me to start my company was: “If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough”. I am constantly held hostage by my dreams because they are so large and I have such a drive to achieve, that can be terrifying.

MESSAGE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH OTHER HEALTHY CHICKS:
Be confident. Be you. Embrace your unique ability. Don’t have a pity party for one. Grow from difficult times in your life. Turn every negative and challenge into a positive.
