Re-Think Your Winter Detox: Cleanse With Bone Broth, Good Sleep, Yoga Twists & Journaling

It seems as though right now every fitness and wellness company is pushing detoxes, 6-packs and losing holiday weight gain for the New Year. Um, no thanks. I’m so not a fan of the fear-mongering marketing that makes women feel like they need to lose weight to feel good in their bodies.

Also, why do we have to wait until 2018 to “start fresh,” anyway?

How about feeling good in our bodies right now?

Like, today.

As you know by now, I’m not a fan of dieting at all. In fact, I coach women on how to ditch dieting and discover joy around food and have an e-program coming soon on this very topic. Here’s a hint: it’s 90% mindset.

So, where does that leave us? I think we need to re-think the way we “detox” and instead focus on gently cleansing our body through self-care and foods that nourish our body. Instead of thinking of what you need to take out (deprivation), let’s think about what we can add in. Check out some of my favorite things to ante up your cleanse the feel-good way!

1. Incorporate Bone Broth into Your Diet

If you know me well, you know I’m obsessed with bone broth! You can read my posts on why I love bone broth and how to incorporate bone broth into your diet to learn more. My all-time favorite bone broth company is Five Way Foods, a New England startup, specializing in locally-sourced broth with delicious flavor.

If you’re looking for a gentle way to cleanse (without giving anything up), check out their Winter Broth Cleanse! You’ll receive two bottles of all-natural fresh bone broths, each loaded with essential nutrients and collagen to help improve digestive health! You can also gift the gift of wellness to a friend with their holiday gift cards.

2. Prioritize Sleep

Are you making good, juicy sleep a priority? Proper sleep re-sets our hormones and is vital for optimal wellness! Some of my favorite evening rituals include meditating with Expectful, taking a shot of tart cherry juice before bed to help regulate melatonin, and lathering up with Organic Bath Co. Stress Less Body Oil or Butter. Learn about more ways to develop an evening self-care ritual for mindful sleep here!

3. Get Bendy

Did you now certain yoga poses actually help support detoxing? Twists can be especially beneficial! One of my favorite poses is the Revolved Chair Pose, where you sit back in chair, and then bend your elbows to the opposite knee, bring your hands to prayer and twist to open up. Learn about 6 other poses that can help stimulate digestion and detox here!

4. Do a Brain Dump

I recently saw this wonderful quote: “The first step to getting what you truly want is having the courage to get rid of what you don’t.” Pretty spot on, huh? One of my favorite ways to cleanse my mind is by journaling and letting it all out through writing. Try doing a brain dump first thing in the morning, where you write down everything on your mind — the good, the bad and the ugly. Then jot down two things you want to do for yourself that day, and make those a priority!

5. Sweat it Out

Are you making time for movement? Whether your thing is restorative yoga, spinning, running or Zumba, sweating is a phenomenal way to flush out toxins and get things moving! During the cold winter months, I’ve also been hooked on our infrared sauna, which can help boost metabolism and I find it super energizing!

Do you fall into the “detox” trap after the holidays? How can you incorporate more gentler ways to cleanse your body?
