4 Healthy Restaurants I’m Loving at Legacy Place

When I moved to the suburbs, one of the things I missed most was walking (or taking public transportation) to my favorite healthy hot-spots. Since that’s no longer an option, I realized I had to get used to driving but taking the trip all the way into Boston isn’t convenient or feasible for me anymore.

That’s why I’m super grateful for Dedham’s Legacy Place, an outdoor shopping plaza with a Whole Foods, boutique clothing stores, restaurants and more! Bonus: It’s just a 25 minute drive from me, and I don’t have to fight for a spot on the T to get there! 😉

Since I’m a foodie at heart, I wanted to share a roundup of my favorite healthy restaurants at Legacy Place — some of my old-time Boston faves and some brand new to me!

sweetgreen

Why I love It

I love that sweetgreen is a scratch-kitchen, changing their menu seasonally and sourcing local as much as possible. In fact, they even have a local list in each store clearly outlining where their food comes from. Can’t get much more transparent than that! You can order one of their signature salads or grain bowls, or craft your own dreamy concoction if you’re feeling creative! They’ve got lots of options for all dietary needs — whether you’re vegan, gluten free or vegetarian. Plus their dressings are made in house, and are always 100% gluten free!

What I Order

Since I used to work on sweetgreen’s marketing team, I’m lucky enough to have tried pretty much everything on the menu. (Fun fact: I named the Harvest Bowl!) Since I’ve had my fair share of salads, I typically make my own combo, but some of my old go-to options off the menu are the Kale Caesar (add avocado), Pesto Portobello and whatever is seasonal. Insider tip: Try mixing their pesto vinaigrette with their Caesar dressing…trust me!

CAVA

Why I love It

CAVA, a DC-based Mediterranean gem, just opened at Legacy Place, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m a sucker for Mediterranean food and could literally eat this way every day of the week! I love that their concept is all about creating your own bowl — with the freedom to choose your own base, dips + spreads, protein, unlimited toppings, and dressing. Almost everything on their menu is gluten free, and they clearly list out their allergens making the menu easy to navigate.

What I Order

I just had the pleasure of going to CAVA for the first time for their Grand Opening, and was seriously impressed! I chose safron basmati rice and romaine as my base topped with chicken, hummus, tzatziki, tomato + cucumber salad, cabbage slaw, pickled banana peppers and a greek vinaigrette. The bowl was topped to the brim for a filling, hearty and delicious lunch! I also got the classic lemonade mixed with strawberry mint lime juice, which was super sweet but a pregnant gal’s dream beverage.

Temazcal Tequila Cantina

Why I love It

Temazcal will surely give you your Mexi night fix, and what’s not to love about Mexican food? This vibrant restaurant offers a diverse menu with authentic favorites, as well as all the tequila and margaritas you could dream of. I love that their menu clearly states items that can be prepared vegetarian or gluten free, making me feel comfortable when I order!

What I Order

It’s not Mexican night without some guac, so I highly recommend starting off with some of their Guacamole. They even have a Lobster Guacamole if you’re feeling adventurous! For gluten free options, I recommend their Beet Salad, Grilled Salmon Tacos, or Grilled Vegetable Tacos. Everything is super flavorful, and pairs perfectly with a refreshing marg.

Genki Ya

Why I love It

There’s nothing like a night out filled with Maki rolls, sake and wine! Genki Ya has all of those, but takes it a step further by offering only all-natural, organic sushi and beverages. I love that their dishes are high-quality, healthy and full of flavor without using trans-fat, MSG or other sketchy additives. Um, yes please!

What I Order

I like to start with an organic glass of wine (that is, when I’m not preggo), and load up on a variety of Maki rolls. Some of my favorites are the Garden, Shrimp California, Alaskan and Boston Flower. They also offer a variety of lunch specials if you’re going earlier in the day!

What are your go-to healthy hot spots in and around Boston?
