5 Mindfulness Tools to Help Teach Kindness to Kids
Being kind is cool and I always say kindness begins with what you say to yourself. Here’s the thing: kids are listening and kindness is taught, which is a big part of my WHY. How can we speak kinder to one another…to ourselves?
Every kids yoga session I lead, we always incorporate positive affirmations. It’s been magical to watch the children get more confident using their voices and expressing themselves as the weeks go by. And it dawned on me recently, for some, they may not hear those kind words as often. That’s why it’s so freakin’ powerful. It truly is a ripple effect.
This month on the blog, I’m sharing five helpful tools to help foster kindness in children.

1. “Mindful & Magical Me” Kids Inspiration Deck by Healthy Chicks
As a mom of two and kids yoga teacher, I created this deck as a screen-free way to connect with children, while fostering kindness, self-love and creativity. The whimsical deck includes 35 nature-inspired cards to help kids tune in, practice mindfulness, and have fun. You and your children will love the rhyming messages, mindful activities and watercolor nature & animal friends that come to life on every card with various themes throughout (yes, including being kind)!
2. Positive Affirmation Wall Prints by Healthy Chicks
These inspirational kids affirmation prints add a colorful, whimsical touch to a child’s nursery, bedroom or play room! Each print includes a beautiful illustration (with either boy or girl designs) and special rhyming affirmation poem for you to easily recite with your little love. The 4-pack affirmation bundle includes four playful prints for you to display: “I Am Grateful,” “I Am Adventurous,” “I Am Creative,” and “Dear Mama, You Are Enough,” inspiring little minds to dream BIG.
3. My Favorite Books About Kindness
We’re big readers in our house — and as both a kids yoga teacher and mom, I have quite the collection of children’s books about feelings. Some of my favorites about being kind t yourself (and others) are Ripple by Jesse Bennett, Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud and The Kindness Book by Todd Parr.
4. “Every Voice” Album By Kira Wiley
Kira Wiley’s music is fun, catchy and contains beautiful lyrics for kids. Her album “Every Voice” includes 12 songs with themes of confidence, kindness and compassion. Kindness Mantra is one of my favorites for all ages…you’ll be singing along in no time!
5. Be Kind Cubes by Learning Resources
If you’re looking for a fun, interactive way to teach kindness to kids, these cubes by Learning Resources are the perfect tool. The dice-style cubes include thoughtful conversation starters like “What would you say or do to cheer someone up?” and “I am glad you are my friend because_____.”
