5-Year High School Reunion, Oh My!
[me (second on the left) at a friend’s high school grad party-guess a lot has changed]
So tonight I am going to my 5-year high school reunion and I have absolutely no idea what to expect. I feel like many of my friends still keep and touch (at least the ones I want to keep in touch with) and that’s who I’ll be carpooling with on the way there. However, I still have no idea what will come of it. While five years does seem like kind of a long time, I feel like nothing has changed, really.
I’m still the same old me, and nothing that drastic has happened in my life worth sharing. It’s not like I chopped off all my hair, gained 50 pounds, had a baby or got married (although I’m sure there will be some of those). But then when I really do think about it, I guess I did change a lot…for the better.
-I gained a boatload of confidence in who I am and what I see myself as.
-I went through four years of college and made some of the best friends I’ll ever have there.
-I studied abroad in Italy and really got a sense of their culture, habits & brilliant lifestyle.
-I went through my “crazy” phase in college and then learned to find balance & consistency in my life.
-I moved to Boston after graduation and learned to be more independent.
-I dabbled in the workplace and learned what it’s like to work in an office job.
-I realized office jobs aren’t really for me, and took a leap to pursue my career as a writer.
-I learned to love wearing jeans, instead of loathing them for making my thighs look fat.
-I died my hair back to its natural brown, and said goodbye to my former blonde self.
-I dated a few guys, or at least went on a few dates.
-I went to New Zealand and jumped out of a plane.
-I lost a little weight and learned to be more comfortable in my body & with my eating habits
-I learned to love running, yoga & Core Fusion.
-I self-published an 80-paged recipe book, “Healthy Chicks in the Kitchen.”
-I experienced loss and heartbreak for the first time when I lost my grandmother and then later that year my great-aunt.
-I learned to appreciate exotic foods like sushi, hummus, Thai & tofu.
-I became obsessed with cooking…all kinds of cooking.
When looking at all of that, I realize I did do a lot in the past five years, and maybe a lot really has changed. Even though I don’t look like a completely different person, a lot has changed on the inside as I’ve learned so much about myself these past years.
So I guess I am excited to see what five years has done to all my other former classmates, whether it’s for the better or the worse – a brilliant job or a balding head. I will keep you posted on how this evening goes.
In the meantime, I challenge you to make a list on things that have changed over the past 2, 5, 10+ years. I think you’ll really surprise yourself when you realize how much you’ve grown up.

About 5 years ago, I had my 10-year 5th grade reunion (the last year of grade school here in Switzerland) and yes, some people never change, some already had kids, were married or divorced and some I barely recognised!
I was waondering if your cookbook was available? Where can I buy it? I looked for it on amazon.com and they suggested Skinny Bitch in the Kitch or a bag of dried garbanzo beans…thanks but no thanks!

Thanks for the comment Sarah! My cookbook actually isn’t available for sale on Amazon (yet, anyway). I self-published it through a program called BookSmart and then only made two copies of it in hard-print. However, I could definitely print more and get you one if you’d like to purchase. It’s a variety of healthy recipes from slimmed-up french toast and smoothies, delicious appetizers to chicken dishes and desserts. Let me know if you’re interested and I will see what I can do : )

That would be cool! How much does your book cost?

Sarah, I am so touched you’d like a copy! It would probably come to around $20.00 plus shipping & handling, but I am feeling in the holiday spirit this year so I may be able to pull some strings : )

Sarah, as you were the first ever reader to be interested in my cookbook, I would love to send you one at no charge to you : ) I’d probably have to charge for shipping because I’m not sure how much it would cost to send to Switzerland, but the book is on me : ) You can email me your address if you are interested & I will send out a signed copy this week. My email is healthychicks.rachel@gmail.com.
Thanks for your interest again!
