Healthy Chicks in the Community Series: Meet Kristen Reed of Nursing Your Way to Wellness

New year, new Healthy Chicks in the Community feature, a monthly series highlighting rockstar Girl Bosses doing their thang in the wellness world and beyond!

I’m thrilled to kick off 2020 with Kristen Reed, a Holistic Nurse and Reiki Master sprinkling her healing touch out into the world! I love her holistic approach to nursing — bringing together her love for people and health through Reiki, health and wellness coaching, and self-care.

In this months’s uplifting interview, we chat with Kristen about how she continues to bring holistic modalities into the medical world, her recovery from two back breaks (and a break up), and her love for sumo oranges. I’ll let Kristen take it away from here!

HOW YOU SERVE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH YOUR WORK:

As a Registered Nurse with Bachelors degrees in both Psychology and Nursing and 9 years of experience in a variety of acute hospital settings, I have seen first-hand the effects of not only diet on physical health, but also the intricate mind-body connection, and how this can drive our entire well being.

I have always had a love for people and health, and nursing perfectly combines the two. Currently working in the Neuroscience ICU step-down unit at Brigham & Women’s hospital in Boston, I bring holistic care to my bedside nursing practice. As a Certified Reiki Master, I perform Reiki on my patients to decrease pain and anxiety and promote healing.

Putting my passion for holistic health in action, I co-head a “Reiki Resiliency” research project, studying the effect of Reiki therapy on nurses’ stress levels, feelings of overwhelm and job satisfaction as well as the effect on patients’ stress and pain levels. I also created monthly “Wellness Days” for nurses and hospital staff, which includes numerous holistic therapies such as Reiki, music therapy, guided meditation, yoga, aromatherapy and more.

This experience combined with my own personal struggles motivates me to continuously educate myself in all areas of health and wellness and put this into action through Health and Wellness Nurse Coaching! Helping others is what gives me life and fuels my intense passion for wellness, nutrition, and all aspects of health!
