Healthy Chicks in the Community: Meet Intuitive Guide Sonya Berrien
When life feels heavy, you feel stuck, or things feel a little “off,” one thing I always go back to is listening to my intuition — that inner knowing, that gut feeling, that little voice inside you saying “it’s going to be OK.”
These past few years, I’ve been leaning into trusting, listening and developing that intuitive connection with myself — and I encourage other women to do the same. I truly believe it’s where the majority of our feminine power lies.
Speaking of developing your intuition, I’m so excited for this month’s Healthy Chicks in the Community spotlight, Intuitive Guide Sonya Berrien. I met Sonya through the Spark Your Bliss community, and I’ve always been in awe by her ability to be so very tuned in — not just with herself but with the collective energy.
In this inspiring interview, we chat with Sonya about her powerful role as an Intuitive Guide, how you can practice expanding your intuitive awareness and why she can’t live without her meditation practice. I’ll let Sonya take it away from here!
DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN THREE WORDS:
Heart led, Embodied, Adventurer
TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR WORK AS AN INTUITIVE GUIDE!
My work as an Intuitive Guide is really hard to put into words as its scope is very wide. As an intuitive guide, I am guided wherever god needs me. I am one who is connected to my intuition to help others and guide them to reconnect to theirs.
One minute I may be connecting to babies who are not yet earth-side to give their parents insight on adjustments needed for conception to connecting individuals with crossed over loved ones to channeling energy healing from higher consciousness. It’s also as simple but just as impactful when embodying motherhood, when used to give suggestions at PTA meetings to help improve schools to acknowledging someone at a grocery store.
I feel my work is always expanding and that is why I always tell people I am spirit led. To me, an intuitive guide is not so much what you do but more who you are and simply just being that light that reminds others of the light within themselves. It’s a lifestyle. I am, you are, we are ONE.
WHAT’S YOUR ADVICE TO READERS LOOKING TO PRACTICE TAPPING INTO THEIR INTUITION?
My advice to readers looking to tap into their intuition is to not overthink it. You see, you’re connected every day to your intuition. It shows up in subtle ways like deciding to take a left on your drive instead of your usual right turn, what book you choose to read, or what you eat for dinner. It all comes down to trust within yourself with decisions you make in every day subtle moments.
If you really want to hone into expanding, I would suggest meditation and this doesn’t have to be in the form of sitting still closing your eyes. It can simply be when doing the dishes take note of the feelings or thoughts coming in. Sit in nature and observe the noises and smells around you. You will notice in these moments of being present you are the MOST connected to your intuition.
YOUR INSTA HANDLE IS BECOMING_UNBOUND. WHAT DOES “BECOMING UNBOUND” MEAN TO YOU?
My handle becoming_unbound was inspired by my own soul experience of unbinding myself from societal programming, childhood conditioning and self-limiting beliefs so I could reconnect to my soul again. I now offer this same soul experience for clients at the 1:1 mentorship level and it’s so beautiful to be part of.
ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’D TELL YOUR CHILDHOOD SELF:
A piece of advice for my childhood self is to remember all of the adversities you will face now because you will show others how to rise from them NOT because you are unloved or not good enough.
FAVORITE SOUL COMFORT FOOD:
My soul comfort food depends on what my body feels called to at the time but its usually between tacos or tofu teriyaki salad.
SONG THAT MOVES YOU:
I am moved by a lot of songs because music is such a soul moving experience which is why everyone, even those who are deaf, are able to be moved because of the vibrations their soul feels while music is playing. I will say two songs that I can listen to on repeat and it feels like the first time each time are “Everything” and “Breathing” by Lifehouse.
SOMETHING IN YOUR “WELLNESS TOOLBOX” YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT:
Meditation is the one thing in my wellness toolbox I can’t live without because it’s the only tool that brings me back to connection to self. It helps with body and mind wellness and can be accessed at any time.
IF YOU COULD PICK ONE PERSON TO HAVE DINNER WITH (DEAD OR ALIVE), WHO WOULD IT BE & WHAT WOULD YOU MAKE THEM:
If I could have dinner with anyone in the world who is no longer earth side it would be Jesus. I would take him to this local place in town called Sauce located in downtown Ashland and order us both a teriyaki tofu salad. Yummmm…
WHAT DOES “HEALTHY” MEAN TO YOU?
Healthy to me is someone who lives intuitively, one who honors all emotions but comes back to peace in their mind, experiences heartbreak but comes back to love in their heart, finds one piece of joy each day AND is connected to their physical body by honoring its needs.
By this, I mean they sleep when they are tired, they move when they are restless, they eat when they are hungry and they can look at themselves in a mirror and give gratitude to every single inch of them acknowledging without this body they would not be here and that, THAT is a beautiful gift.
