Dinner for Two, Please: Team Work in the Kitchen Makes for a Wholesome, Tasty Meal
[source]
Usually, I cook for just one in my tiny 2×2 single lady’s kitchen, but ever since the Sig-O came along – ha, I saw that word the other day and just had to use it – we’ve been attempting to cook together and let me tell you it’s quite a good time. Who knew team work in the kitchen could be such a fun bonding experience?
Maybe it’s just because I love that I can do my thing without him nagging at me for “doing it wrong.” I wouldn’t dare step inside my Grandma Mary’s kitchen while she is on a roll; the kitchen expert would rip me into pieces when she saw the way I held the knife or sliced the meat the “wrong way.” Then I’d probably get slapped with the wooden spoon…I kid…sorta.
But when you’re cooking with your boyfriend (or best friend/sister/brother/mother/lover) the two of you can do your own thing, then combine your talents to create something amazing. Take Tuesday night, for example. We were snowed in together so we bought ingredients to make salmon and roasted cauliflower. I made the salmon – marinated in orange juice, tequila, garlic, pepper, lime juice and spicy orange habanero sauce- and he made the Balsamic & Parmesan Roasted Cauliflower, a recipe from Eating Well.
Last night we put our team work to the test yet again. He was gung-ho on making me his famous tacos- with corn shells instead of flour to be gluten free for me – but I wanted to help out too! I’m not one of those girls to just stand there and watch! Therefore, I made some of my killer guacamole [see recipe below], and even added a pinch of that habanero sauce to kick it up a notch. With fresh flavors of lime, cilantro, and garlic, the guac was a hit. And so were his tacos. Seriously, yum. Talk about a power couple in the kitchen.
I never knew cooking for two (with both in the kitchen) could be so much fun, and I can’t wait to try more “you make this, I make that” meals. Some other ideas for you to try:
-you make the turkey meatballs, he makes the spaghetti
-you make the chili, he makes the corn bread
-you make the salad, he makes the steak
-you make the eggs, he makes the (turkey) bacon
-you make the roasted butternut squash, he makes the grilled chicken
-you make to-die-for chocolate covered strawberries, he makes a signature cocktail (for dessert, of course hehe)
Enjoy!
Oh, and here’s “Rachel’s Classic Guac” recipe. Tell your man to whip up some tacos!
What Ya Need:
-2 avocados (slightly softened)
-1/2 red onion
-1/2 lime, squeezed
-1/4 c. chopped cilantro
-1 clove garlic, crushed
-1 large tomato
To Do:
1. Chop up onion, tomato and cilantro; set aside in bowl.
2. In the meantime, carve out and chop avocados; add into bowl.
3. Add in lime juice and crushed garlic; mix together well!
Do you like cooking with a friend/boyfriend/sister in the kitchen? What are some meals you enjoy cooking together?

My boyfriend lovesss to cook.. me? Not so much. I do make some pretty good omlettes and eggs though, so it usually ends up as “you cook dinner, I’ll cook breakfast”
That guac sounds delicious too I’m definitely going to have to try it

Hey, at least you can make a killer breakfast! I used to hate cooking too, but now I just love experimenting with different ingredients…and it’s so great to actually KNOW what’s going into each meal.

My kitchen is super duper tiny (my post recent blog post has a picture) so we literally don’t fit in there both at the same time, at least not if we plan to use the oven, open the refrigerator, or.. move… at all.
But we we’re at his parents’ house we cook breakfast as a team a lot – same kind of thing, I’ll cook this if you cook that. Mostly he’s my sous chef
By the way, I am TOTALLY making that salmon soon! (Just have the find the sauce first!)

Thanks for the comment Brittany! It sure it tough to cook in a teeny tiny kitchen, but I’m glad to see you two are figuring out other ways to cook together : ) And yes, you totally should try the salmon recipe; it was delicious! I also have another salmon recipe on my blog under “Recipes” you may want to check out made with lemon & dill!
