7 Ways to Detox Your Body, Mind & Soul This Season (Without Dieting)
Can you feel it in the air? I don’t know about you, but my body definitely feels these seasonal shifts like WHOA. As we transition into fall from the fiery, fast-paced summer, our bodies are often seeking a break — to ground and press reset.
Fall is the perfect season to slow down, get back to our roots and re-energize. It’s also a great time to boost the immune system, shed unwanted weight and let go of things that no longer serve us.
Here are 7 simple ways to detox your body, mind & soul this season (without dieting)!
SET YOUR FALL INTENTION
Intentions don’t have to be reserved for yoga classes and New Year’s Day. Take the start of a new season as a time to get clear about your intention for the next few months. Do you want to take more time for yourself? Practice work-life balance? Work on your patience with the kids? Be more present when home with your family? Think about the areas in your life you’ve been neglecting lately, and start there. Write it down, set a goal and stick to it.
DE-CLUTTER + RELEASE NEGATIVE ENERGY
Now is the perfect time to get rid of all that extra clutter that’s getting in the way! Ask yourself what types of things you are holding onto (both physically + emotionally) that are causing extra “clutter” in your life. Make a list. Now find a way to get rid of some of that extra weight so you can move through life more freely and make way for new beginnings. When dealing with pent up negative energy, strive to look for a positive outlet like running, cleaning or trying that deep relaxation yoga class. You’ll feel a sense of relief, and will be better able to serve yourself, your family and others. Sometimes all it really takes is a simple shift in perspective!
EAT SEASONAL, WHOLE FOODS
During the summer our body needs & craves lighter, cooling foods (like berries, cucumbers & watermelon) but come fall it’s important to incorporate more cooked meals, warming spices and grounding foods. Some of my favorite fall foods are pears, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, cauliflower and pumpkin. Load up on warming spices like cinnamon & clove, which also act as a natural sweet-tooth tamer!
AMP UP YOUR SELF-CARE
What do you do to take care of yourself? It’s absolutely impossible to live a wholesome, healthy lifestyle when you’re not making time for self-care. Some of my favorite ways to put me first are diffusing calming essential oils, self-massage, deep breathing, meditation and journaling. Do what works for you.
HYDRATE
Not only does water hydrate your system, but it actually can help promote better digestion, clearer skin and focus. Win, win, win! One of my favorite ways to start the day — especially as the weather cools down — is a mug of warm water with the juice of half a lemon. This helps energize the body and cleanse the liver! As you start detoxing, also think about cutting back on toxins like excessive caffeine and sugary beverages.
MOVE MORE
Find an exercise that works for you, and do more of that! Some fall favorites include hiking, grounding yoga classes, tennis and playing with the kiddos outside.
DISCOVER YOUR SUPER FOODS!
What makes us beautiful is that we are all different, and what works for one may not work for another. That’s why it’s important to really get to know your body, and the foods that make you feel good! A great way to do this is through an elimination diet, where you remove common allergens and foods that may cause inflammation like dairy, wheat and alcohol.
