Healthy Chicks in the Community Series: Meet Caryn Phillips of MomLife Health and Wellness

Happy December, beauties…hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with friends and family! The first snowfall has officially arrived, and we’ve got Charlie Brown Christmas playing on repeat over here.

As we enter the new month, it’s time for another feature on Healthy Chicks in the Community, a monthly series highlighting rockstar Girls Bosses doing their thang in the wellness world! I’m honored to highlight fellow mama and business owner Caryn Phillips of MomLife Health and Wellness. As a physical therapist (specializing in pelvic floor and perinatal health), Caryn helps busy mamas take back control of their bodies — making self care a priority. Can we get an Amen to that?!

In this month’s inspiring interview, we chat with Caryn about her work as a perinatal physical therapist, glute muscles and why grapefruit it her go-to!

NAME:

Caryn Phillips

DESCRIBE YOUR BUSINESS/LINE OF WORK:

I have been a pelvic health and perinatal physical therapist for 9+ years. I now own my own business, MomLife Health and Wellness, providing in-office and in-home session to women, moms (new and veteran) and expecting moms.

WHERE YOU LIVE:

This can be to work on anything from pregnancy-related pain, to core strengthening after baby, to pregnancy-safe workout routine, to painful sex, to urinary incontinence. Sessions usually consist of a mix of exercise, education and body work but are totally customizable depending on the client’s specific needs.

Franklin, MA

HOW YOU SERVE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH YOUR WORK:

I educate and empower women by giving them the tools they need to take back control of their bodies.

NUMBER ONE PASSION OUTSIDE THE JOB:

traveling with my family

INTENTIONS/GOALS YOU HAVE FOR YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 3 YEARS: To spread awareness to as many people as possible about the issues that are related to pelvic and perinatal health and the treatment options available.

ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’D TELL YOUR CHILDHOOD SELF:

Don’t worry about that other people think.

FOODS THAT MAKE YOU FEEL ALIVE & BRING THE MOST JOY:

I had to think about this for awhile, I think grapefruit. It’s almost therapeutic cutting out the little wedges and scooping them out with a spoon!

SONG THAT MOVES YOU:

Cecelia and the Satellite

THREE FAB THINGS ABOUT YOU:

1. I’m an introvert that loves talking with people (but then also needs my alone time)

2. I have 6 tattoos and can bet there are more to come

3. I have a healthy obsession with Bravo TV.

FAVORITE BODY PART & WHY:

The butt? hahaha…more specifically some of the butt muscles. The butt is such a powerful stabilizer of the hips and pelvis. There are so many great exercises to target all the different glute muscles!

I GET MY INSPIRATION FROM:

My kids, the other strong women in my life

EXERCISE THAT MAKES YOU SHINE:

Dance cardio! It instantly makes me smile and boosts my mood!

SOMETHING IN YOUR “WELLNESS TOOLBOX” YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT:

Restorative yoga and deep breathing

GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT:

Being a mom

FEMALE LEADER(S) YOU LOOK UP TO:

Maya Angelou, Kristen Bell, Aly Raisman

IF YOU COULD PICK ONE PERSON TO HAVE DINNER WITH, WHO WOULD IT BE & WHAT WOULD YOU MAKE THEM:

Ellen DeGeneres

GO-TO MANTRA OR INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE:

“Don’t make yourself small so that others feel more comfortable” -Rachel Hollis

MESSAGE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH OTHER HEALTHY CHICKS:
