Friday Favorites: On Pretzel Crisps, Childhood Snacks and Dating

HAPPY FRIDAY HEALTHY CHICKIES! Yes, the rain isn’t fun if you reside here in Boston. But whatever…embrace the rain and go play in it. That’s my attitude these days. Speaking of my attitude, this week I’ve really been trying to follow my heart. I’ve always been a major fan of following my heart, as I think there’s no better way to go. Whether it’s leaving a job that you know isn’t right for you or  doing something completely spur of the moment like going on a cross-the-east-coast road trip to Florida with a guy you just met (yup, I did that) because it just felt right, following your heart is important to me. So I’ve really been working on that this week. And since it’s Friday, here are share some other things I’m lovin’ this week too:

1. Pretzel Crisps: The kind people over at Pretzel Crisps sent me two huge bags filled with pretzels to try out. I’ve old had Pretzel Crisps once before, and it was a while ago so I was excited to test out the flavor flave. I have to say they were INCREDIBLE. And no, I’m not just saying that to make you buy them. (I don’t get paid to advertise any of the products I receive). I popped open the Cinnamon Toast puppies – I had been eying them – the other night for a late-night snack to eat with my yogurt because I was craving sweet, and it surely did the trick. I only needed about five to be content. Then yesterday when I was craving salty & cheesey (let’s be real, when am I not craving cheesy), I dove into the Garlic Parmesan. HOLY YUM. I think these bad boys are my new favorite. Plus they are low in calorie – just 110 cals for 10 crisps – with zero trans fat, saturated fat, or cholesterol. However since Pretzel Crisps aren’t gluten-free and gluten tends to bother my stomach, I can’t eat too many of them so it helps with self-control. I’m totally bringing up a few bags to NH this weekend for my family to try out!

2. Childhood Snacks: The other day while shopping at Trader Joe’s, I came across one of my favorite childhood snacks: Mini Babybel Cheese. You know, the kind in that comes in the wax that’s so much fun to peel off and yet oh so tasty at the same time! I bought a pack of the Mini Babybel Light and have been eating them for a healthy snack all week. With just 50 calories, 3 grams of fat and a whole 6 grams of protein, these make for a Healthy Chick approved snackerdoodle. Eat them plain or pair with sliced apple, raw nuts, or whole grain crackers.

3. Simple Dates: I’m totally a fan of the simple things, as goes with my dating preferences. I don’t need $100 bottles of wine, white table clothes and a 6-course meal to be happy, although one day when I’m rich that may be nice. But it’s the little things in life that make for a perfect date. That’s why I’m oh so excited to go on an afternoon date with The Boy to our favorite sushi joint. It’s not fancy, there’s only about 3 tables inside, but the sushi I tell you is absolutely amazing. Plus you can get a whole Lunch Box – 2 rolls, an organic salad with ginger dressing, miso soup and sliced oranges – for just $9.50. That’s a perfect date in my mind! It’s really just about the food, the experience, and who I’m with that makes for an A+ date. : )

What are your favorites this week? I’d love to hear from you! Oh, and you still have ’til midnight tonight to enter my totally awesome Popchips giveaway – one of my favorite new snacks EVER!

P.S. If you like reading my blog I’d LOVE if you’d nominate me for the Women’s Health Magazine Blog Contest – all you have to do is submit healthy-chicks.com with a brief description why you like it. Thanks a bunch!
