A Lil Adventure, Baby: On Getting More Out of Life and The City You Live In!

[source]

I have a confession: When I first moved to Boston I was like a freshman going to college – everything in the city just seemed SO cool to me and I wanted to see & do absolutely everything. I wanted to try every single restaurant, attend every museum, run on the Charles River, see a Red Sox game, hit up all the best bars, party my life away, go on fancy dates and explore with my camera in hand. I wanted to do it all. Unfortunately – and somewhat fortunately for my budget- that bright-eyed excitement has kind of disappeared. It’s not necessarily a bad thing or a good thing; I’ve just gotten comfy in the city I now call home.

However, last night when I attended Blueman Group at the Charles Playhouse for my first time ever, that rush of excitement came  back…and I found myself kinda, sorta missing it. OK, REALLY REALLY REALLY missing it. My oh-so-wonderful neighbor was able to score my best friend and I free tickets and we just had a ball. We started our night off with a yummy dinner at Motien Thai & Sushi Lounge where we split a Spicy Tuna roll (which was somewhat dry), a salad, and some delicious Pad Thai. The Pad Thai was definitely the best part; they are known for their Thai after all. Then we hit up the Box Office at the Charles Playhouse to collect our free tiks. I felt so VIP.

Once the show started, I honestly didn’t stop ooh-ing and ahh-ing (or laughing until I almost peed my pants) until the minute it ended. Yes, it was that entertaining. I don’t remember the last time I laughed that hard, nor had such a memorable evening. WOW, just WOW. The music, the lighting, the dancing, the colors, the audience interaction, the beats, the comedy. It was all simply so good. I won’t say too much because I don’t want to ruin it for those who haven’t seen it but it was honestly amazing and I suggest you snag tickets now if you haven’t yet been. I can assure you will 100% love it, although the woman next to us was crying at one point. (I have no idea why – so strange). Oh well, I won’t judge.

Anyway, back to the point. The thrill and excitement I felt last night is what I have been missing in my life lately. Don’t get me wrong: I love my life and have a blast nearly every single day simply just being. But that doesn’t mean a gal can’t miss that excitement of doing something new every once in a while.

I want to take pictures again. I want to get lost in the BPL and explore every garden and museum in the city. I want to run around the Charles River until my legs fall off and try exotic new restaurants in places I’ve never been before. I want to travel. I want to be spontaneous and watch the sunset from the best view of the city. I want to go on picnics, hikes and mini “adventures.” Sign up for wine tours, writing classes, poetry nights and book clubs. I want to do more in this lovely city while I can.

So that I am going to work on. It’s one of my “Rachel goals.” I know it’s a big one, but I’ll take little, baby steps to get there. I’ll be sure to keep you all posted while I do as well!

Do you ever feel like your life is lacking that “thrill”? What do you do to add in some excitement and adventure?
