Hungry, Hungry Mama: 8 Healthy Snacks to Stash in the Diaper Bag for Moms On-the-Go

There’s nothing worst than being a hungry, hungry mama — especially when you’re trapped nursing, trying to cram in some work (before the coffee gets cold) or out and about running errands with babe.

Here are some of my go-to healthy snacks for mom fuel! Let’s face it: the diaper bag is pretty much just one giant purse to stash mom snacks when you need something stat!

1. Chomps Grass-Fed Beef Sticks

Where have these been all my life? I discovered these gems right after I gave birth — and they’ve been a must ever since! I’m usually not a fan of beef jerky (it kind of creeps me out), but these grass-fed beef sticks are legit!

I’ve tried a couple of the flavors but the original is by far my favorite; I love that they’re made with simple clean ingredients like grass-fed beef, without any gluten, nitrates or nitrites. Get ’em at Trader Joe’s or snag your own pack online here with free shipping!

2. Larabars

Larabars were my go-to in my twenties, then I kind of forgot about ’em for a while. I always grab a few every time I’m at Trader Joe’s, and recently ordered a 16-pack of Larabars on Amazon because I go through them so quickly.

I like that they’re made simply with fruit, nuts and simple add-ins like chocolate chips, lemon juice or coconut depending on the flavor. They’re always gluten free, dairy free, soy free, vegan and kosher!

3. Plantain Chips

Craving salty? These are a great chip alternative, and got me through early pregnancy, when pretty much anything made me sick — except plantain chips, clementines and peanut butter! I like Trader Joe’s Roasted Plantain Chips, made with just plantains, sunflower oil and salt. Look for the purple bag with the monkey!

4. Single-Serving Cheese

How did I ever give up dairy? While I was once dairy-free due to digestive issues and thyroid healing, I started to crave it in a big way once I became pregnant. Baby wants what baby gets, and Baby Bella wanted Babybel (ironically enough) and string cheese. I now make sure I always have some single-serve cheese in stock for a portioned protein-rich, satiating snack.

5. LesserEvil Paleo Puffs + Hippeas Chickpea Puffs

While I consume a healthy dose of dairy again, my body doesn’t like when I go overboard. That’s where these LesserEvil “No Cheese” Cheesiness Puffs come in hand, made with wholesome ingredients like casava, coconut oil, Himalayan sea salt and even sweet potato. The cheesy flavor profile is unreal!

I also enjoy Hippeas Vegan White Cheddar Chickpea Puffs for another “cheesy” snack alternative. Snag both for a discounted price over on Thrive Market & get 25% off your first order!

6. Healthy Truth Sprouted Nut Clusters

Healthy Truth Sprouted Nut Clusters are perfect for a fast, nutrient-rich snack! I’m obsessed with the Pizza and Sour Cream & Chive Nut Clusters, all 100% raw, vegan, and gluten free.

7. Justin’s Almond Butter Squeeze Packs

These babies were a must in my hospital bag, when you just need something quick and mess-free! I stash ’em in the cabinet to enjoy with sliced apple, oatmeal or just plain out of the pack!

These are also my go-to travel companion to avoid airport food. I scoop these up at a discounted price on Thrive Market as well!

8. Fresh Fruit & Veggies

When all else fails, you can’t go wrong with fresh fruits and vegetables. Apples, clementines, bananas, and baby carrots are especially ideal for diaper bag stashing!
