A Tasty and Fat Free Recipe: 7 Ingredients for a Great Day
[it’s the little things in life like this heart-shaped foam in my latte]
Yesterday was just one of those all around great days. You know, one of those days where everything just seems to be going your way…like the universe or astrological signs or whatever are on your side. It was nice seeing as though I had my fair share of “blah” days the past few weeks and thought it was due time for the opposite.
First of all, things are starting to look OK in the unemployed realm, as I’m pretty sure I scored myself some means of income. Then I found out that my younger sister got into grad school – her #1 choice – IN BOSTON! I couldn’t be more proud of her…she definitely worked hard for this, and couldn’t be more deserving. Plus, we are going to be roommates next year. Get ready for TWO Healthy Chicks in the kitchen.
Yesterday I also booked a “me vacation” to MIAMI from Sunday to Friday to visit an old friend from college and work on my tan. Hey, when the room is already paid for and your dad can use his miles on cheap flights, how could a gal possibly refuse such an offer?
So, maybe I woke up on the right side of the bed or maybe I was just given a large dose of luck, but maybe such great days are somewhat in our own control as well. Just a tad. Fate only takes us so far after all. Anyway, here’s my personal recipe for a great day…enjoy! (Oh, and this recipe is 100% fat free…well except for the last ingredient hehe.)
What Ya Need:
-wake up on the right side of the bed: Look, I know we can’t really know which side is the “right” side, but if you start your day off right it usually ends up to be a good one…scratch that, a great one. Sometimes if I’ve had a rough week, I take a few seconds in the morning for me. I say to myself “Today will be a good day. Bring it on!” That starts my day off on a positive note, making it hard to bring me down after that.
-an outfit you feel comfy & confident in: I like to wear anything with a fitted waist or belt to accentuate my upper body. Wear what makes you feel your best, and that will shine outwardly
-positive affirmations: remind yourself over and over again that you are amazing, you are a good person/friend/mother/sister/etc and you are the best you that you can possibly be
-“I Can Do It” Mindset: Whenever you get down on yourself, you start thinking negative thoughts and guess what? Those negative thoughts usually take over, making your day a lousy one. When you think “I Can Do It” and truly believe in that, most often good things will happen. It’s an attitude and I truly believe in the law of attraction.
-a good friend: We all need that person who will listen to us rave about THE BEST NEWS we ever got, and also be there when we had the shittiest days of all days. A good friend is a must in the recipe of a good day. It’s reassuring to know someone’s there for you (in rain or shine) to make things OK
-a smile: Keep that gorgeous smile going all day, baby! Like my mom says, “You look so much prettier when you smile” and she’s absolutely right. It’s amazing what a little smile can do for your mood (and your looks). Yesterday I was smiling left and right, and my approachable look led me to some very engaging, comical conversations. I know some people think talking to strangers in the grocery store or the train is creepy, but I find it fun and intriguing. You learn something new every day.
-dessert: if all else fails, treat yourself to some dessert! Dessert always makes me happy. Chocolate covered strawberries and a glass of wine, anyone?
What’s your recipe for a great day? I’d love to hear!

Love these tips…they are so very true. For some reason today the song “you’re never fully dressed without a smile” was in my head!
