Quotable Sunday: The Road to Happiness
The other day I saw this quote on Naomi’s blog over at One Fit Foodie. I loved it so much that I wanted to feature it on this week’s Quotable Sunday. As the weekend unwinds, I want you all to remember that this life is yours (and yours alone) to live, so follow the path that makes you happiest and never look back.
Quotable Sunday: Reading (Deep) into Text Messages
[source]
The other day, my friend sent me an article from The Hairpin called “Reading Between the Texts: The Other Side.” The little scenarios made me laugh so hard because, well, we’ve all been there at some point in time. And if you haven’t been there, then you may just be the most normal person I’ve ever met. Whether you’re a drunk texter-aholic or simply an over-analyzer like myself, you’ll surely get a hoot out of this article.
Here is a brief snippet:
The Text
“What are u up to”
The Strategy
K: OK, so in your response, what message do you want to send? Are you trying to play it cool like you don’t really care that much, unless he cares a lot? Or are you like, trying to be sexy and forward?
B: I’m trying to be … sexily uninterested.
K: NICE, okay. So you should make it sound like you’re doing something awesome, but you are potentially free if he begs you.
B: Exactly! So should I be like “nm, at this crazy party, what about u” ?
K: Well that might be weird. It’s like 4 p.m. He’ll think you’re an … Read More!
Book Review: Gourmet Nutrition for the Fit Food Lover

As much as I love giving presents, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like receiving them too. Whether it’s a surprise back rub, or a special bottle of wine, presents are oodles of fun. And yesterday, my sister surprised me with quite the belated birthday present. Since she knows I love to read, cook, and eat healthy (as she does as well), she ordered me the book “Gourmet Nutrition: The Cookbook for the Fit Food Lover.” It arrived in the mail yesterday, and we can’t wait to cook from it when we move into our North End apartment together.
Considering my healthy lifestyle and recent decision to go back to school to become a Holistic Health Coach, how more perfect could this present be? Written by Dr. John M. Berardi, Michael Williams & Kristina Andrew, the creators of Precision Nutrition, the book is made for people who absolutely love cooking and eating, but without all the guilt. I’m pretty sure that describes my philosophy on a healthy diet to a tee.
I’ve already started flipping through the book, marking down some must-try recipes. However, I’m running into one big problem: they all look … Read More!
Got the Monday Blues? 7 Ways to Snap Out of It and Find Your Inner Happiness
lobster roll, anyone?
[source]
Good afternoon ladies. Or is it really a good afternoon? If you’re like me, you may be craving a little extra feel-good this Monday. Hey, they don’t call it the Monday Blues for nothing. If that extra-large latte with two shots of espresso still isn’t doing it for you, read on my friends. Here are 7 surefire ways that’ll snap you out of that grouchy mood by the time you finish your lunch:
1. Lobster roll specials are all over the place right now, especially if you live in New England. Check out what made the cut for Serious Eats’ top 17 lobster rolls in the Northeast here. But if you’re looking to snag a really great deal, nothing beats “window shopping” for tasty specials during the summertime; just make sure you’re paying attention to the signs as you walk!
2. The Boston Common offers free yoga at Frog Pond every Thursday at 9 a.m. There’s no better way to start your morning than a little Power Vinyasa in the park. End your morning with a homemade smoothie, made with frozen strawberries, banana and vanilla soy milk, perhaps. If you don’t live in … Read More!
Quotable Sunday: On The Little Things that Shape Our Lives
Good evening everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. I must say I had an amazing weekend celebrating with friends and family at my sister’s graduation party. It was filled with precious little moments…and to me those are the best kind of moments. Since my family know’s how to eat (and cook) we naturally ate our hearts out, including Acacado Bean Dip, Vegetable Lasagna, my mom’s Chicken Divan (a family favorite), Death by Chocolate and the most moist & sinful gluten free brownies that ever touched my taste buds.
All in all the weekend was a 10, despite the fact that I lost my voice and my throat still hurts. For a social butterfly, losing your voice really stinks. Now I know how poor Ariel felt. Anyway, it’s Sunday so it’s time for Quotable Sunday. This one really stood out to be this week, and lies close to my heart. Enjoy and be well!

Hump Day Lesson of the Day: Keep Breathing
Good morning ladies! Congrats; it’s Wednesday and you are half way through the week. Lately, I’ve been trying to remind myself of the importance in breathing. Whether that’s taking a deep breath to put yourself back into place when your mind takes over, practicing yoga for peace of mind, or controlling your breathing during a long, sweaty run, it’s no lie that breathing is important in our day to day life. It keeps us sane. It keeps us in tact. Heck, it keeps us alive.
My favorite artist of the month – Ingird Michaelson – says it perfectly. And how could you not feel a little more relaxed after listening to that voice?

Go ahead, take a long deep breath right now. Ahhh…now doesn’t that feel better? And if Ingrid doesn’t help, there is nothing so relaxing to me than lavender. Take a peak at this Lavender Blossom Bath & Body Oil from Naturopathica, blended with Lavandin to soothe the mind, body and spirit. Talk about an at-home Aromatherapy sesh.
Quotable Sunday: On Surrounding Yourself with Good People
Well, the day has arrived. It’s finally time for my parents to meet The Boy’s parents in a little less than an hour now. I’m excited to spend the day surrounded by family, shrimp cocktail, BBQing and boat rides. Life doesn’t get much better than that, and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day.
Anyway, this morning I got to thinking how lucky I am to have so many wonderful people in my life. After all, I truly believe that the people we spend our time with greatly affect who we are, and how we carry ourselves through this crazy little thing called life. It’s like we take a little piece of every person we build a relationship with, making us a better person in the end. That’s why I choose to surround myself with amazing people, amazing people who are going to make me a better person.
I think Oprah sums it up perfectly:
Enjoy your Sunday ladies!
