Quotable Sunday: On Finding Utter Happiness
This coming week, I’m going to focus very hard on finding harmony and balance in my life. Not over-analyzing everything. Not thinking too much about the future, nor too much about the past. On just going with the flow. I believe that if you let yourself think, do, and say as you please in the moment, you will ultimately find that place of harmony and happiness you’ve been looking for.
What goals have you set for yourself this upcoming week?… Read More!

Quit Getting Down on Yourself: On Giving Your Body and Self the Time it Needs to Succeed
[source]
Once I got back to Boston last week, and the half marathon was over I got a a really weird feeling. You know, that feeling you get when the holidays end, when you went back to school after prom or on the flight home from an incredible vacation. I can’t believe it’s all over. Now what? It’s an odd thing going from running nearly every day, plus long runs on the weekends to nothing. And I have to admit, now that I’m not training for anything I haven’t been very good about keeping up with my exercise, let alone running.
The other day, I decided I’d end this mood I was experiencing. Even though I knew I wasn’t quite ready to run again, I laced up my sneakers and hit the gym. After a light cardio workout on the elliptical, I hopped on the big, bad treadmill. I ran a mile and ran it fast. Then it hit me: my right shin / knee were in major pain. I had to stop, and at first felt defeated in a way. Last week I ran 13.1 miles, and now I can barely do 1? I was angry.

Quotable Sunday: A Lesson from Good Old Dr. Seuss
Good morning everyone! Isn’t it such a lovely day in New England? It felt so nice to walk out of the house this morning in a spring-y dress, boots and light sweater. IT’S ABOUT TIME. I’m heading home now for my cousin’s baby shower. It should be a wonderful day, filled with family, food and fun.
Anywho, this week I’ve been thinking a lot about life, more particularly being in control of your own life. I think sometimes when things get a little crazy, we tend to forget that we have control over our own lives. No one else is in charge but YOU. If you hate your job, you don’t have to stay in it. If you’re not happy with your relationship, you can end it. If you want to pick up Italian again, travel Europe or start playing piano, you have the ability to. Sometimes you just need to remind yourself that YOU are in control, and can go anywhere you want to go. So now a lesson from the ever-so-smart Dr. Seuss:
Hope you all have a great Sunday & enjoy the sunshine!
XoXo,
New Year’s Resolution: Check and The Road to My First Half Marathon
me & my sister Krista
When I saw the sign “New Year’s Resolution: Check somewhere between mile 12 and mile 13 during the More / Fitness Women’s Half Marathon, I couldn’t help but tear up a bit. All of the sudden memories from years/months/weeks ago rushed to my mind. They were so real, so crystal clear. The time I couldn’t run a mile on my 16th birthday, so I gave up and walked home. The time I cried on the first 5K I ran with my dad because I couldn’t believe we were only half way. The time I ran my heart out for the first time after the death of my grandmother. I felt as though I could run forever.
Then the most vivid memory of all: the time I wrote down that I would run a half marathon this year on January 1, 2011 as my New Year’s Resolution. Some thought I was crazy, but I knew in my heart that I could do it and that I would do it.
Three months, 60+ training runs, a couple doubts and a whole lot of sweat and anticipation later, I suddenly found myself standing at the start … Read More!
Hump Day Lesson: On Remembering to Breathe
Today I started my part time job as a barista at the cutest little cafe. I won’t lie: it was pretty stressful at first, but I think I can get the hang of it. I spent 7 1/2 straight hours learning to make the perfect cappuccino, macchiato, latte, Americano, iced latte & more. Not to mention slicing sandwiches and trying to find the coffee sleeves in a room as big as my basement. I have to say, at the beginning of the day when I could barely screw the espresso cap onto the machine, I had my doubts. But now I’m feeling pretty good and think I can pick it up rather quickly with just a little practice…and lots of patience. Practice makes perfect after all, right?
From work, I went straight to a sushi lunch with The Boy. We both ordered the Roll Combo which includes Miso soup, organic salad with ginger dressing, a Spicy Tuna roll and a California roll for just $10. How’s that for a bargain? After that, we worked on my parent’s salon website and snuggled a bit before his departure. With such a busy day, I nearly forgot to post my Hump Day post. … Read More!
Banana Pancakes and Quotable Sunday
This morning we had banana pancakes for breakfast up here in our cozy New Hampshire Condo. Everyone in the family conveniently brought about a dozen bananas each, so clearly we had to do something about the excessive bananas. Banana pancakes was the absolute perfect solution: they were moist, fluffy and absolutely decadent. As I’m sitting here sipping on my Baccio (Chocolate & Hazelnut flavored) black coffee and nibbling on banana pancakes, Jack Johnson’s hit song naturally came to mind.
Enjoy your Sunday ladies, and remember to allow yourself to sleep in a little longer today…relax a little more…and just simply enjoy the day!… Read More!
Hump Day Lesson of the Day: On Weather Shock
I am going through a phase of weather shock, and it’s absolutely terrible.
I mean, when you go from this:
to this:
…it takes some getting used to. OK the second picture is a bit of an exaggeration as it was taken during the blizzard two months ago. But STILL it SNOWED the other day and we’re expecting 3 inches tonight. It’s the end March, for goodness sake! And I get it, I get it. I shouldn’t complain because at least I had my week of fun and am all tan and shit. But let me tell you: it doesn’t make the adjustment any easier.
So while yes, a vacation to Florida (or the Bahamas or Mexico or whatever floats your boat) sounds enticing – as it is – you must be prepared to pay the consequences upon your return. And if you don’t have any warm, fun vacations coming up, you can laugh at all your friends who get a bad case of the Weather Shock. It aint good.… Read More!
