Hump Day Lesson of the Day

Ladies, I am serious with this one so listen up. Last week, my roommate had to make a turkey for a work party, but she had the slightest idea how, so she asked roommate #2 to do all the work for her. Well all the sudden 2 a.m. rolls around (the time the turkey was supposed to be taken out of the oven) and I hear a bunch of Shit, Fu*k, Shit!s coming from the kitchen. I figured the turkey fell or got a little burnt, but then it happened. The fire alarm started going off and this heinous horn like sound followed shortly after. Indeed, we had set off the entire building’s alarm. I opened my door and couldn’t even see because our apartment was so smoky. Apparently, the grease had overflowed the pan getting into the oven, starting a mini fire and then smoking up our pint-sized apartment.

Soon enough, the fire trucks were on their way. The best part? Five macho firemen come busting through our apartment doors expecting to save the day and come to the rescue…axes and gear in hand. Little did they know there was no fire at all, just a bunch of confused, … Read More!

I am Thankful For…

[source]

Lately, I’ve seen a lot of people on Facebook doing an “I am thankful” countdown of sorts. I’ve been amazed and touched by how creative and inspiring people are getting with these things. Therefore, I’ve decided to dedicate a post for myself on things I am thankful for in my life. I thought it was only fitting that Thanksgiving is just two days away, and it’s been one of the only things on my mind for the past month. I guess you could say I am in the Thanksgiving mode, and have decided to treat my neighbor for lunch today because of it. He’s one of the millions of things (er, people) I am thankful for and I think it’s nice to give back sometimes and give a little “thank you” of my own. So here goes…

I am thankful for…

1. My wonderful friends who live all over the place (as far as Virginia) and the fact that whenever I see them it’s like old times again…like time hasn’t even passed.

2. My goofy, caring, and sometimes crazy family for loving me for me, and being there for support no matter what.

3. Peanut butter, and … Read More!

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year…

[source]

Ok, confession: While you probably already know from my last post, I'm kind of already in Christmas mode...that is, in full-fledged Christmas mode. You can't really blame a girl though. The malls have been dressed up in pretty lights for ages, holiday stuff is all over the place, and tomorrow is Faneuil Hall's tree lighting- Santa's even gonna be there and they light up the tallest tree in New England. OK, you get it, I'm over-the-top excited for the holiday season.

And to get even more into the mood, my roommate and I are having a holiday movie marathon tonight with homemade cute snacks and all our favorite holiday classics including Elf, The Holiday and my all-time favorite: Love Actually. I’ve already watched it once this season, but this is one movie I can watch again and again and again. I absolutely love the message it sends out, and if anyone knows me, I am a hopeless romantic so this movie gets me every time.

I especially like one of the first lines in the movie, and want to touch upon it in my post today: “If you look for it , I’ve got a sneaky

Thanksgiving is Just Around the Corner…

[source]

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, but let’s be honest: I’ve been thinking about it since early October, and I’m already thinking about Christmas. Hey, it’s the malls fault for being all decorated and pretty with lights and Christmas trees. But when it’s all said and done, Thanksgiving is and always has been my absolute favorite holiday. The delicious smells, the wonderful feeling of family and the fact that I go into a turkey coma every year (no matter how much I tell myself to slow down) is all part of the joy of Thanksgiving.

But even though I almost always have to unbutton my pants come dessert, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t try to keep my Thanksgiving just a bit healthier. After all, I’m not trying to gain 10 pounds in one sitting and feel like absolute crap the next day. That would be doing my body no good. So this year in particular, I’m working on adding a little extra healthy oomph to my favorite holiday, and that I will share with you…

#1 I’m running my first ever Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day: I’ll be running the 5-mile Manchester Road Race, Read More!

Sister Chats=Happiness

As many of you know if you’ve been keeping up with my blog, I’ve spent the last five days visiting my sister in Baltimore (hence the lack of blogging every day). But what can I say? When I’m with the sis, stopping to pull out my Mac and blog is the last thing on my mind. Rather, I take every minute that I’m with her to catch up on life and have “sister chats.” (That’s what we call them.) We update each other on boys, jobs/work and the latest gossip among many other things. You see, since we’re less than two years apart (she’s 21 and I’m 23), we act more like friends than sisters. We make fun of each other/tease each other/can get on each other’s nerves time to time but at the end of the day we are as close as two peas in a pod.  And that right there is exactly why I love having a sister, and couldn’t imagine it any other way.

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon this article in the New York Times called “Why Sisterly Chats Make People Happier.” Wow! Sisterly chats? It’s like this article is speaking to me. … Read More!

Sunday Updates

I’m terribly sorry I haven’t updated since Thursday, but I’ve been in Baltimore visiting my younger sister Krista. So that’s a pretty legit excuse, right? Still, I thought I’d update you on some things I’ve been getting myself into down south…

1. Drinking like a college girl: Holy moly has my body changed since college. I just can’t handle the alcohol like I used to be able to, so needless to say I was quite intoxicated on Thursday night when we went to my sister’s friends “happy hour” at a bar. Free entry and $2 mixed drinks? What did they expect?

2. Lots of Dining: I’ve been dining like a queen since I got here, and am definitely going to have to make up for it this coming week. Lotsa clean eating and core fusion is a-comin’! I have to say, my favorite meal by far was at RA sushi on Friday night. My dad came down from CT to surprise us girls, and took us out for the most amazing sushi of my life. Best part? It was Happy Hour so everything was half off. You bet I dined hardcore, filling up on fried shrimp (YUM), spicy tuna rolls … Read More!

LUNAFEST & A Snazzy Night Out

As I mentioned on my blog yesterday, I won a ticket to Boston’s LUNAFEST from the lovely girls over at Guiltless. I think it’s safe to say I was absolutely ecstatic. Not only did the event look like a blast, but it was hosted in the Liberty Hotel. Fancy shmancy, huh? Needless to say, I got all dolled up in my fancy new boots, dark skinny jeans and a snazzy black shirt and took this single girl on a hot date…by myself. I have to say I was pretty pumped to take myself out on a date and do something different for once in the lovely city of Boston.

Some highlights of the night:

-All the beautiful, powerful women in the room: Seriously, the ballroom was packed with women. While some did bring their husbands or man friends, the majority of the people there were 20, 30, 40, 50 and even 60-something women all there for the same purpose: to learn and enjoy themselves.

-The charitable aspect: 100% of the LUNAFEST net proceeds went directly to charity, specifically to support the Breast Cancer Fund, and they made this very vocal at the showing. One woman spoke of the … Read More!

Holy Luck & Happy Hump Day!

[source]

When I was younger, I used to be extremely lucky. I always won the best prizes during Bingo night, would win raffles like it was my job and scratch tickets always brought me a couple extra bucks in the pocket. However, lately my luck hasn’t been quite like it was as a child.

But, as of yesterday (or this whole month actually) I think it’s safe to say my luck is back, baby! For starters, I went on two dates in one weekend, and scored a job interview (which I ended up declining, but that’s a whole ‘nother story). Then yesterday I won a pair of tickets to see LUNAFEST at the Liberty Hotel in Boston, which I couldn’t be more excited about! Oh, but wait, it gets even better. I was also invited by the kind woman from Core Fusion to take a live class with a friend here in Boston at Exhale Spa in the near future. Then just when I thought my luck couldn’t get any better, this morning I woke up to an email telling me I won the Greyhound raffle I entered at a festival a couple weeks ago, getting me $50 … Read More!
