It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year…

[source]

Ok, confession: While you probably already know from my last post, I'm kind of already in Christmas mode...that is, in full-fledged Christmas mode. You can't really blame a girl though. The malls have been dressed up in pretty lights for ages, holiday stuff is all over the place, and tomorrow is Faneuil Hall's tree lighting- Santa's even gonna be there and they light up the tallest tree in New England. OK, you get it, I'm over-the-top excited for the holiday season.

And to get even more into the mood, my roommate and I are having a holiday movie marathon tonight with homemade cute snacks and all our favorite holiday classics including Elf, The Holiday and my all-time favorite: Love Actually. I’ve already watched it once this season, but this is one movie I can watch again and again and again. I absolutely love the message it sends out, and if anyone knows me, I am a hopeless romantic so this movie gets me every time.

I especially like one of the first lines in the movie, and want to touch upon it in my post today: “If you look for it , I’ve got a sneaky

Sister Chats=Happiness

As many of you know if you’ve been keeping up with my blog, I’ve spent the last five days visiting my sister in Baltimore (hence the lack of blogging every day). But what can I say? When I’m with the sis, stopping to pull out my Mac and blog is the last thing on my mind. Rather, I take every minute that I’m with her to catch up on life and have “sister chats.” (That’s what we call them.) We update each other on boys, jobs/work and the latest gossip among many other things. You see, since we’re less than two years apart (she’s 21 and I’m 23), we act more like friends than sisters. We make fun of each other/tease each other/can get on each other’s nerves time to time but at the end of the day we are as close as two peas in a pod.  And that right there is exactly why I love having a sister, and couldn’t imagine it any other way.

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon this article in the New York Times called “Why Sisterly Chats Make People Happier.” Wow! Sisterly chats? It’s like this article is speaking to me. … Read More!

Sunday Updates

I’m terribly sorry I haven’t updated since Thursday, but I’ve been in Baltimore visiting my younger sister Krista. So that’s a pretty legit excuse, right? Still, I thought I’d update you on some things I’ve been getting myself into down south…

1. Drinking like a college girl: Holy moly has my body changed since college. I just can’t handle the alcohol like I used to be able to, so needless to say I was quite intoxicated on Thursday night when we went to my sister’s friends “happy hour” at a bar. Free entry and $2 mixed drinks? What did they expect?

2. Lots of Dining: I’ve been dining like a queen since I got here, and am definitely going to have to make up for it this coming week. Lotsa clean eating and core fusion is a-comin’! I have to say, my favorite meal by far was at RA sushi on Friday night. My dad came down from CT to surprise us girls, and took us out for the most amazing sushi of my life. Best part? It was Happy Hour so everything was half off. You bet I dined hardcore, filling up on fried shrimp (YUM), spicy tuna rolls … Read More!

LUNAFEST & A Snazzy Night Out

As I mentioned on my blog yesterday, I won a ticket to Boston’s LUNAFEST from the lovely girls over at Guiltless. I think it’s safe to say I was absolutely ecstatic. Not only did the event look like a blast, but it was hosted in the Liberty Hotel. Fancy shmancy, huh? Needless to say, I got all dolled up in my fancy new boots, dark skinny jeans and a snazzy black shirt and took this single girl on a hot date…by myself. I have to say I was pretty pumped to take myself out on a date and do something different for once in the lovely city of Boston.

Some highlights of the night:

-All the beautiful, powerful women in the room: Seriously, the ballroom was packed with women. While some did bring their husbands or man friends, the majority of the people there were 20, 30, 40, 50 and even 60-something women all there for the same purpose: to learn and enjoy themselves.

-The charitable aspect: 100% of the LUNAFEST net proceeds went directly to charity, specifically to support the Breast Cancer Fund, and they made this very vocal at the showing. One woman spoke of the … Read More!

Holy Luck & Happy Hump Day!

[source]

When I was younger, I used to be extremely lucky. I always won the best prizes during Bingo night, would win raffles like it was my job and scratch tickets always brought me a couple extra bucks in the pocket. However, lately my luck hasn’t been quite like it was as a child.

But, as of yesterday (or this whole month actually) I think it’s safe to say my luck is back, baby! For starters, I went on two dates in one weekend, and scored a job interview (which I ended up declining, but that’s a whole ‘nother story). Then yesterday I won a pair of tickets to see LUNAFEST at the Liberty Hotel in Boston, which I couldn’t be more excited about! Oh, but wait, it gets even better. I was also invited by the kind woman from Core Fusion to take a live class with a friend here in Boston at Exhale Spa in the near future. Then just when I thought my luck couldn’t get any better, this morning I woke up to an email telling me I won the Greyhound raffle I entered at a festival a couple weeks ago, getting me $50 … Read More!

Happy Hump Day: One Reason I'm Happy College is Over

Hump Day Lesson of the Day: Never underestimate what will grow in a college apartment. Seriously, just when you thought windex and wipes were enough, this pops up. I kid you not…

Ladies, I hope I don’t freak you out and make you run away from my blog forever, but this indeed is a mushroom…that grew in our apartment junior year of college. Scary, huh? Look at the size of that thing…look at the roots on that thing! Needless to say we freaked out and cleaned that shit for days. Happy Hump Day all! You’re almost through the week…Hope this, er, made you laugh or vomit or at least takes your mind off work for a sec.

Me Things & Halloween Weekend Prep

Confession: today’s post is going to be cut short on purpose because I am going to take this afternoon solely for ME; that’s right a whole segment of my day dedicated to me and only me. I realized I do spend a lot of time with myself (well with me and my good ol’ pink mac), but I don’t really spend time on myself, and today I’m going to make that change.

1. I’m going to get a pedicure. I don’t think I’ve gotten a real pedicure in MONTHS, months I tell you! I contemplated saving the $20, $25 and doing it myself. Then I realized, whenever I give myself a pedi it comes out ugly, and I deserve something pretty. After all, it’s Halloween weekend, and I’m being Waldo and well, Waldo needs hot red toes.

2. Speaking of Waldo, I need to finish up my costume. So I must take a trip to CVS to purchase a throw-away camera. I’m SUPER excited to snap shops all night long, and not know what they’ll look like until I get them developed. (Remember those good ol’ days?) Waldo needs to go all out with tourist supplies, so he’s … Read More!

Happy Hump Day: Hiding Boys in Closets

[source]

It’s Wednesday, and you are almost over the hump! YAY! Here’s a silly story to hopefully make you giggle and get you through those last painful hours of the day…

Hump Day Lesson of the Day: When you need to quickly conceal a dude in your room, hide him in the closet (or spare room)*

*this post has been taken from my old blog “Girls on Guys”

So it was my sophomore year in college, family weekend. My parents and sister were to come down Friday afternoon to spend the weekend with me. Naturally, I still wanted to go out the night before they came, and knew that I’d have plenty of time to cure my hangover before they arrived. Well, I went out with a big group of friends, and brought the guy I was seeing at the time (we’ll call him Billy) back to my apartment with me, warning him that he’d have to leave the next morning before my family arrived.

Well, 8 a.m. rolls around and I hear my phone ringing. I wake up, all frazzled, hair a mess and scurry to find my phone, careful not to wake up snoring Billy … Read More!

Happy Hump Day: Give Yourself a Makeover (In the Nude!)

Happy Hump Day all! And now to continue on with my Hump Day series, we have our…(you guessed it)….drumroll…

Hump Day Lesson of the Day: When you have the apartment to yourself, give yourself a “naked makeover.” Hear me out. Today I woke up and was feeling a lack of motivation to get ready. Quite frankly, I could lounge in my comfy PJ’s and old slippers all day long. But I knew I shouldn’t (and wouldn’t). What could I do to get myself going? Well, step one was to get out of these ratty pajamas. And when I took off my clothes, that’s when I realized I had the apartment all to myself and the idea came to me: I can give myself a makeover…in the nude! If you find yourself in a similar predicament or just want to pretty-up (in a slightly scandalous way), read on…

Step 1: Lock all your doors. We don’t want the new neighbor interrupting to borrow a spatula or any surprise visits from UPS.

Step 2: Disrobe…to the extent you feel comfortable in. I left on a lacy bra and undies, but go as bare or as conservative as you like!

Step 3: Lather … Read More!
