Motivating Yourself to Exercise: Do it for Your Mind and Productivity Levels

The other day, The Boy and I got into a chat about exercising, and his lack of exercising lately. On that note, I haven’t been no Superwoman lately either. It’s just been so nice outside and I’ve been “busy.”

Anyway, our conversation led to me preaching to him reasons to go back to the gym, and no it’s not because he has a beer belly. (That would be a whole ‘nother story, but fortunately that’s not the case and I’m not a nagging girlfriend). Rather, I was stressing the importance of exercising for your mental health.

Yes, I said it. While it may be shocking to many, one of the top reasons I exercise is in fact for my mental health, in simpler terms: my sanity. I won’t lie: in college the main reason I worked out was to strive for Victoria Secret model-esque legs, Jessica Alba’s abs, and That Girl’s tush in the latest issue of Women’s Health. I exercised every day to hopelessly achieve these unattainable goals.

Now, a few years later, I’m quite happy with my not-so-perfect body, and now see the importance in exercising for other reason’s aside from physique. It amazes me how much 60 … Read More!

Tuesday Talk: A little Update on this Healthy Chick

Good morning everyone, and sorry I’ve been kinda a ghost lately. It’s just that I’ve got a lot on my mind, and am now finally going to share all of that with you!

1. For one, I enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to become a certified health coach with a holistic focus, and will begin taking online classes in the fall. I couldn’t be more excited to go back to school and continue my education, especially with something that is so me. It’s no doubt that I love writing, I love helping people, and I love anything related to health, nutrition and well-being. So why not throw all of my passions together and make something out it? I’m confident that one day I will become a successful health coach, helping others get back on track and see that living a healthy life style does not have to be difficult. I’ve always been one for a need to feel passionate with what I do in life, and in September I will finally start this journey! More info to come…

This news is extra-exciting because my sister and I are moving into our North End apartment September 1, right when … Read More!

A How to Guide: Bouncing Back from an Off Day

I have a confession: As happy-g0-lucky-kinda-girl that I am, I sometimes feel a little “off” inside, as I know many who can relate. ThatOff”-ness can mean many things to many different people, whether it’s feeling torn, confused, scared, or even having a little less confidence in yourself than usual.

It’s a difficult thing to put a finger on because the feeling comes from within, and you are the owner of it. It’s not something a mani-pedi, glass of red wine, or five hour conversation with your best friend can fix. I’ve come to realize that when you are not feeling your best, 100% self, only you can give yourself the strength and courage to bounce back.

So how do you bounce back? How do you bring yourself to the mental state of assurance, happiness, and “OK”? That’s something we all struggle with from time to time, but here’s a few ways to start:

  • Play your favorite, inspirational song over and over and over again. Currently I like anything by Adele or Ingrid Michaelson.
  • Make a happy list. Yes, composed of everything in your life right now that fills your little soul with happiness.
  • Live in the present,

Hump Day Lesson of the Day: Learn to Check the Labels on Your Makeup for Parabens and Other Toxins

[source]

Happy Wednesday ladies, and congrats on making it half way through the day. Now time for our weekly Hump Day Lesson of the day! This week we’re going to talk makeup. I know, I know, makeup on a healthy living website? Get outta’ here! You know nothing about fashion! Well that may be true, but hold up just one second there; shopping for the right makeup has a lot more to do with your health than you may first think.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you know that I’m a firm believer in reading labels. No, not the labels on designer jeans, but labels on your food. Well lately, I’ve been almost just as serious as reading labels on my cosmetics.

It all started last week when I began breaking out like whoa. Seriously, my face is a disaster right now. I’m blaming it partially on stress, because as we know stressful times can cause for beauty disasters, but I’m blaming the other portion on my makeup.

When was the last time you read the labels of your perfume, concealer or powder? Until the other day, I never had; I … Read More!

Monday Motivation: Making New Friends and Broadening Your Social Network

[source]

As I mentioned in my Friday Favorite’s post the other day, I’ve been really trying to focus on networking and broadening both my personal and professional contacts.

Let’s face is: this day and age it’s all about who you know, and building meaningful, concrete relationships with those people you know.

But what happens when you get comfortable solely with who you know now, and forget about those new connections you could make? We all tend to fall into the trap of sticking with our social “bubble.” We get comfortable with our current relationships, coworkers, acquaintances and friends we’ve had forever that it’s easy to stay inside that little bubble and hide away from the rest of the world.

However, have you ever thought about expanding that bubble? I know I often do.  Having worked from home or at very small companies and living with my best friend for the past two years, on top of spending much of my free time with The Boy (or on Facebook and Twitter), I’m rarely handed the opportunity to meet new people.

On that same note, it doesn’t mean that people in my situation or a similar one can’t meet new … Read More!

Quotable Sunday: On NOT Giving Up

Happy Sunday ladies. I hope you had a wonderful weekend, and are enjoying this final day of relaxation. Anyway, I got to thinking this morning about goals, dreams and following through with them. All of us have dreams and aspirations for ourselves, including those magical ones we’ve had since we were five years old, and others which we develop as we go through life.

Goals and dreams are great. They keep us passionate. They keep up motivated. However, when we don’t achieve those said goals in ____ period of time, it’s easy to give up and get down on ourselves.

In these times we need to remember that, while it may be more difficult, trying just one more time is the better option. We all fall, but we need to learn to pick ourselves back up, wipe those tears and give it another go, or fight like hell for something we believe in.  After all, no one ever made it big by giving up. Next time you fall, remember that and remember this quote.

Cheers to a happy, inspirational Sunday afternoon!

XoXo,

Friday Favorites: On Blueberries, Jango, Networking, and More

[sourcehow can you not love these baby blues?]

Good afternoon there! I’ll keep this intro short  because it’s Friday and if you’re like me you have a very low attention span right about now. So let’s just get to the point: Here are my top 5 favorites of the week. Enjoy and please leave a comment at the end with your own obsessions!

1. This little gem from Stella & Dot: I wear it every day, especially now that my nails are nicely manicured. I simply can’t help it. There’s just something about chunky, unique rings that I absolutely adore. Take a peak at some other summer items – from necklaces and earrings to charms and bracelets – that might be suitable for YOU.

2. Jango : Usually I’m a fan of my iTunes, but I was getting sick of the same ol’, same ol’ thus I thought I’d give Jango a try again. I’m absolutely in love with this free internet radio service. You simply pick a few of your favorite artists, and bam: a personalized playlist is created for you.

June is Here: 7 Summery Things to Smile About Right Now

[source]

Can you believe it’s already June 2nd? Where oh where did the time go? I’m not complaining however, because June means we’re closer to summer (only 19 days away as a matter of fact) which means lots of fun in the sun! Anyway, if you’re human, I know you could always use an extra smile to get you through the day. Here are 11 surefire things to get you grinning in no time. Go ahead, don’t hold  back!

1. It’s the season of BBQs. That means you can eat that cheeseburger or extra rib (or two) without the guilt, that is as long as you go easy on dessert. Remember, being healthy is all about balance, and if you make good decisions 90% of the time, one extra ‘dog isn’t gonna kill you.

2. You can wear white and rock it proudly. White shorts. Long white summer dresses. White button down flow-y blouses. Deck yourself out in white. It’s a beautiful color on you!

3. Flowers, flowers everywhere. They are now in full bloom! Pick a big juicy purple one and put it in your hair…just don’t get caught!

4. Summer cocktails are everywhere now that the … Read More!
